Monitoring of Media Coverage

On December 21, 2011 presentation of interim reports concerning media monitoring was held at the South Caucasus Regional Office of the Heinrich Boell Foundation. The topic of the media monitoring was highlighting hate speech in print media.

Javakheti Doukhobors (Part I)

A set of white-painted houses in the unnamed streets; the old houses have sandy roofs; the new ones have tinned roofs. In winter, they burn faded and chopped excrement to heat home – there is no forest nearby to get fire-wood. It is cold even in the autumn but smoke is not coming from chimneys yet. Old housewives keep the excrement for winter. There are pyramids of hay in the yards; although they have plenty of hay, they still save it – the cattle should eat the hay till late spring.

Survivors of epidemics, hunger, frost and snow founded a small settlement Bogdanovka (currently Ninotsminda) in spring of 1842. They did not select the name occasionally; it was the name of initial settlement of Doukhobors in Metropolia, which was founded by Savel Kapustin.

The Parliament of Georgia passed the relevant draft-law through first hearing at the special session on July 1. Christian-Democrats think it will be very sensitive issue for the relation between the Orthodox Church and the State.
